Comics Coloring Guidelines

Embedded at the end of this article is a PDF of the corporate coloring guidelines that
DC Comics (a Time-Warner company) requested that I develop in 1999. The document replaced the notorious guidelines that their printer, Quebecor had developed and which were not digitally sound. Please keep in mind that DC was looking for guidelines that WORKED and would result in files that would be uniformly similiar in size, and approximately the same amount of time to process (RIPing sequence). Quecebor's own technical director approved these guidelines and hailed them as a huge improvement.

Please note that I do endorse RGB coloring methods, as long as you have your
Photoshop Color Settings set accordingly, and do the required conversion to CMYK
color-space yourself. No printer is ever responsible for “Getting it RIGHT”, you are.
You are the Artist, it's your responsibility!

It is my hope that many colorists experiment with applications like procreate Painter 8.
The enormous variations of paint styles, and paint brushes used in this application lends itself to unique artistic expression, and this is truely what every comics publisher desires. With this basic foundation, I open the roundtable to all. Email me at the Contact Us link for further dialogue.

Download the PDF guidelines by Clicking Here!
During the coming months I will attempt to update these guidelines for the new releases of Adobe Photoshop CS3, and Quark XPress 7.

Comix Links \'link-s\ n (of Scand origin) : 1: a connecting structure:
Comix Links is a collective area of interest for the avid comics enthusiast. The wide variety
of comics being published may appear daunting at first, however it is our belief that there is
something for everyone, for the young and adult alike. You'll find each one of the companies
below produces a random assortment of goods from comics to statues, lunchboxes, posters,
and even the odd zippo lighter.
Go have fun already, and remember that the comic book is a distinctly American art-form!
